The “Non-GMO Project Verified” label means our chickens are raised on a diet comprised of non-GMO soybeans and corn. These non-GMO grains, given throughout the chickens’ lives, ensure our final products meet the rigorous criteria set forth by the non-GMO verification process. This process is independently verified by a third-party, approved, certifying agency.
Fed All-Vegetable Diet
Along with local non-GMO corn, soybean meal, as well as essential vitamins and minerals, sources of fat in chickens’ diets are derived from vegetable—versus animal—sources. This means there are no animal byproducts in feed, given to flocks raised for Georges Farmers Market products.
All Natural and No Added Salt or Solutions
Today, labeling rules allow for added ingredients to fresh chicken products, and those products still being labeled “all natural.” So long as the ingredients are “natural,” that is. Added salt is a good example of this practice.
For Georges Farmers Market fresh chicken products, we believe that “all natural” should mean just one ingredient: chicken. For this reason, we do not add any saltwater, nor other “natural” additives like carrageenan (seaweed extract). Not adding these ingredients ensures that when conscientious consumers buy our chicken, they are getting just that. Chicken with nothing added, which tastes just like it should!
USDA Process Verified and Verified Animal Welfare Program
We want our consumers to know that the health and welfare of the chickens raised for
Georges Farmers Market chicken products is of the utmost importance. We are acutely aware that our chickens are our livelihoods and treating them right is the right thing to do. But we also recognize that saying it and proving it are two different things.
To prove it, “USDA Process Verified” and “Verified Animal Welfare Program” package claims ensure consumers we have a rigorous, documented, animal welfare program that is regularly audited by a
USDA Process Verified (third-party) agency. And that we do what we say we do. This assures our consumers that the chicken inside the package came from flocks that were raised with care, according to well-documented and audited animal welfare standards.
